The Campbell Hausfeld Single-Stage 20-gallon Air Compressor VT6290 is an "extreme duty" residential spec air compressor designed to stand up to everyday use by the avid do-it-yourselfer.

The 2-running-horsepower unit pushes the limits of a compressor using household 120-volt, 15-amp current. The unit features an ample space-saving 20-gallon horizontal ASME code tank, pressurized by a twin cylinder oil lubricated cast-iron pump. Solid cast-iron units are up to 35 percent quieter than aluminum units with cast-iron cylinder sleeves, and are dramatically quieter than direct-drive aluminum compressors.

The VT6290 is powerful enough to run most any pneumatic tool (wrenches, sanders, paint guns, nailers, staplers), except for the most air-hungry pneumatic drills. However, the VT6290 drains down quickly from maximum pressure under several concurrent loads.

The solid plastic wheels allow for relatively easy transport of this 172-pound load except over the roughest terrain, under which larger air-filled tires would be preferable. The 5-peak-horsepower engine is oil lubricated, thus requiring an occasional oil change. Due to the oil plug location, draining oil proves challenging.

No attachments are included with the unit, and most tools will require the purchase of a female hose fitting.

The Campbell Hausfeld VT6290 is a great choice for the do-it-yourselfer with frequent applications of a powerful compressor supporting one tool at a time, but there are better-suited models with similar power rating available for concurrent commercial/contractor use.
