With the MovieWorks 58, Cambridge SoundWorks has taken all the worry out of putting together a small home theater speaker system. Available in slate or white, the MovieWorks 58 package consists of five MC50 satellite speakers and a BassCube 8S subwoofer.

Although they have very small footprints, each MovieWorks satellite features a large 3-1/2-inch driver that produces a decent sound. The odd, asymmetrical speaker cabinets are designed to reduce distortion, and each has a built-in equalizer that tunes the sound to compensate for the unique shape. The frequency response is 150Hz to 16,000Hz, which is not the greatest high-end performance. The low-end is handled by the BassCube 8S subwoofer, which has a 50-watt amplifier powering an 8-inch driver. The subwoofer frequency response is 39Hz to 200Hz. Again, these are not awe-inspiring numbers, but the response and power figures should be adequate for modest home theaters.

The Cambridge SoundWorks MovieWorks 58 is a respectable system for a small home theater, where its accuracy, musical tone, and small size more than outweighs its drawbacks.
