The Cambridge SoundWorks MegaTheater Solution 61 is a mid-range product that can perform above and beyond many higher-priced systems. The Solution 61 builds on Cambridge's entry-level Solution 60 and improves it by upgrading the speakers in a significant way.

The Solution 61 comes with Newton Series MC100 speakers for the front left and right channels. Each MC100 uses a 3-1/2-inch midrange driver and a 3/4-inch tweeter to provide a clean high end, which is especially evident when listening to high-resolution DVD-Audio. The center channel is the Newton Series MC150, which has the same components as the MC100 but adds a second midrange driver. These are placed in an "MTM" configuration, with the tweeter positioned between the midrange drivers to provide better image focus and overall dispersion.

The surround channels use Newton Series S100 speakers, which can be switched from dipole to bipole mode, depending on user preferences. Each S100 has a single 3-1/2-inch driver. All the satellites are magnetically shielded. The subwoofer has a built-in 150-watt amplifier to power the 8-inch long-throw downward-firing driver. Its frequency response is rated down to 35Hz.

The AVS600 main unit provides up to 450 total watts of power to the surround speakers. It has a progressive scan DVD player that is also compatible with DVD-Audio, as well as CD and CD-R/RW. There is built-in decoding for Dolby Digital and DTS, along with Dolby Pro Logic II.

With speakers that are able to handle the high frequencies and wide dynamic range found in the DVD-Audio format, the Cambridge SoundWorks Mega Solution 61 is a system to be reckoned with.
