The MegaTheater Solution 60 is a high-quality home theater system that, even at $800, represents Cambridge SoundWorks' entry-level system. The Solution 60 may be small, but with ample power, DVD-Audio compatibility and a competent collection of speakers, it certainly doesn't act its size.

The main unit of the Solution 60 is the AVS600, which sports an amplifier supplying a total of 450 watts of power to the five speakers. The AVS600 is also home to a progressive scan DVD player that can play high-resolution DVD-Audio, as well as CD and CD-R/RW. There is built-in decoding for Dolby Digital and DTS, along with Dolby Pro Logic II. It has a wide selection of inputs and outputs, and it includes a digital AM/FM tuner with 40 station presets.

The Solution 60 comes with an interesting mix of speakers. The front left, right and center speakers are all Newton Series MC50 satellites, each using a 3-1/2-inch full-range driver for an even response across the front soundstage. The rear left and right S100 speakers also have 3-1/2-inch drivers.

The S100s can be switched between dipole and bipole, so you can decide which sounds best. For example, some listeners prefer bipole (more focused sound) for music and dipole (more ambient sound) for movies. All of the satellites are magnetically shielded. The 150-watt powered subwoofer features a long-throw 8-inch driver.

With DVD-Audio abilities and a fine sound, the Cambridge SoundWorks MegaTheater Solution 60 is a strong entry into the highly competitive home theater market.
