Bushnell NorthStar 3-Inch Telescope 78-8831
Date Published: 3/7/06
The NorthStar 3-Inch Telescope 78-8831 is Bushnell's entry-level reflector scope in its line of NorthStar scopes. The NorthStar line offers the beginning star gazer such helpful aids as motorized GoTo technology, LCD read out, RVO (Real Voice Output), wide-angle red-dot finder scope, and quick-release tripod with accessory tray for fast, easy assembly. The GoTo-equipped 78-8831, once it is aligned with two stars, locates and tracks stars, planets, constellations, and even deep sky objects with the touch of a button. These atronomical objects my also be photographed (camera adapter included) when the 78-8831 is equipped with a camera. This scope, however, is not a good choice for viewing terrestrial objects. RVO and backlit LCD screen provide information on the object being viewed both in voice output and on screen: "Jupiter fifth planet from sun. Largest planet in solar system, 16 moons, etc." The 1X finder scope has a large angle of view and red dot for precisely targeting desired objects. The Bushnell exclusive "Kinematic" mount is stable, accurate, and easy to use. This 700mm focal length, 3-inch aperture reflector coupled with 4mm and 20mm eyepieces will deliver satisfying views for beginners or more advanced gazers as a light weight travel scope. The 78-8831 package also includes a nearly useless Barlow lens for increasing magnification far beyond useable levels. Electronic parts are covered by a 2-year warranty, while the rest of the scope carries Bushnell's lifetime warranty.
