Brother's PT-1280 label writer offers plenty of solid features in a low-priced unit. It may not deliver some high-end or specialized features that certain users may need, but the PT-1280's provides broad appeal for many users.

The PT-1280 is designed for two-handed use on a desktop. Although the keys on this label writer are small, its QWERTY layout is more comfortable to use than many other models.

The PT-1280 can use four different tape sizes, ranging from 9/64 to 1/2 inches, and it matches the print height to the tape width. You will appreciate that the PT-1280 can run from either six AAA batteries or from an AC adapter (available for an extra cost).

This label writer offers a print speed of 10 mm per second (which is average), and its 15-character LCD isn't quite as large as we'd like to see. The PT-1280 also can only print in one font. But considering its sub-$40 price, those drawbacks are extremely minor.
