Brother PS-3100 sewing machine
Date Published: 3/13/07
A super value from Brother, the PS-3100 costs a bit more than a basic sewing machine, but offers enough features to keep beginners and experienced seamstresses happy for a long time.
There are lots of low-priced, entry-level machines out there. The problem is they often are so bare bones that they frustrate beginners and experienced seamstresses alike. For just this reason, we suggest the PS-3100. This model contains the cost while offering features that are sure to make sewing a pleasure.
Start with the convenient top-loading bobbin. This system is just easier to use -- there's no case to fool with and it's obvious when the bobbin is empty. Add to that a one-step buttonhole feature that eliminates any tricky adjustments and a simple-to-use needle threader, and it's hard to go wrong. Top all that off with precise electronic speed control, easy-turn dials and a carry-case, and you'll have enough machine to last you a lifetime if you so desire.
We were so impressed with the Brother PS-3100 that we don't hesitate to encourage you to spend a bit more for it. Sew with this machine awhile and you'll be glad you choose it.
Pros: Offers the features you really need, especially top-load bobbin and one-step buttonhole
Cons: Costs more than a bare bones model
