Brother Innovis 4000D computerized sewing machine
Date Published: 6/17/08
When it comes to value in a high-end computerized embroidery-sewing machine, you won't want to overlook the Brother Innovis 4000D. Although an expensive machine, this model packs in some convenience features you won't find on every other machine in this price range.
Most impressive is the self-threading system. At this writing, the Innovis 4000D is the only top-of-the-line sewing-embroidery machine we've seen with this feature. If you're having trouble seeing to thread or are a beginner who wants to go immediately to beautiful embroidery without much of a learning curve, this feature may be exactly what you're looking for. To thread this machine, it only takes the push of a button.
PC-savvy seamstresses will appreciate the technical versatility of Brother's Innovis. This machine offers two USB ports in place of the usual one, so you can connect to more than one computer or storage device at a time. Those moving up from other machines will like the ability to use many of the designs they have previously stored in other formats.
Unlike some similarly priced machines, the Innovis 4000D includes a pivoting food that can be used at three different heights. Other machines offer this feature, but usually only as an expensive upgrade.
If your embroidery plans include making projects for kids, you may want to consider this or another Brother machine. Brother is the only manufacturer that offers built-in Disney designs.
Our testers also found the Brother Innovis 4000D's thread cutter to be an incredible convenience. It saved them lots of time, by automatically eliminating excess jump stitch threads.
Although we're not enamored with many of Brother's entry-level machines, we found Innovis 4000D to be exceptionally well-designed and convenient to use. If you're considering a machine at this level, we'd strongly recommend you give this model a test drive.
Pros: Automatic threading, includes Disney designs, 1,000 stitch per minute capability and a 12x7-inch embroidery field
Cons: Expensive, most embroidery designs are Disney, average seamstress not likely to ever use all these features
