The Britax Regent in Onyx is a forward-facing car seat, so it can be used only with children who have hit the one-year mark and who weigh from 22 to 80 pounds. We love the fact that this car seat can be used as a car seat/booster seat for children up to 80 pounds. Why are we so excited about this? Unlike some car seats that accommodate children up to 80 pounds with only the aid of a safety belt, the Britax Regent in Onyx secures children with its five-point harness until they outgrow the need for a car seat altogether. We would like the harness straps to be wider (they tend to slightly twist with frequent or hurried use), but because the Britax Regent in Onyx has other winsome features, this is a relatively minor complaint. The Britax Regent has several harness height positions and it can recline.

While we applaud the Britax Regent in Onyx for its comfort, design and safety-conscious materials, we must caution that the seat is bulky. Don't expect to easily move the Britax Regent from car to car. However, even at 31 pounds and 21 inches wide, the Britax Regent gets a gold star for ease-of-installation. We've come to expect quality construction and user-friendly features from Britax, and the Britax Regent in Onyx doesn't disappoint.
