Britax Regent E93990 Booster Seat
Date Published: 7/31/07
The Britax Regent E93990 Booster Seat is designed for use by children one year and older, between 22 and 80 pounds. It is lined with energy-absorbing foam, and instead of using a car's safety belt to secure its' passenger, the Britax Regent has a five-point harness with belly pad. The straps are wide and do not easily twist, which is both safe and comfortable for the passenger. We also like the ability to slip the straps into their storage areas on each side of the seat. This keeps the seat looking neat, keeps the straps in good condition and discourages accidental entanglement.
While we prefer not to remove a car seat to adjust the shoulder straps, it was necessary with the Britax Regent. Once removed from the car, however, it was a quick task to adjust the shoulder straps.
Some parents may wish for armrests on the Britax Regent, but our testers liked the lack thereof, since there was nothing to get in the way of reaching for a cup or snacks in the seat's side compartments. The lack of armrests also gives this model a "big kid" appeal.
Weighing in at 29 pounds, the Britax Regent is a bit too cumbersome for frequent changes from vehicle to vehicle, and we definitely rule out toting this model through an airport for air travel. It is sturdy, however, and we like the extra safety features such as Britax's patented Versa-Tether, flexible buckle Lower Anchors and Tethers for Children (LATCH) system and the tangle-free harness that can be adjusted with one pull.
Like most of the other Britax car seats we've reviewed, this one gets high marks for its safety features, durable construction and more than a measure of style.
Pros: Added safety features, easy to adjust harness, can be used up to 80 pounds
Cons: Can be heavy and cumbersome if traveling by air
