Braun PowerMax MX2050 Blender
Date Published: 7/10/07
The Braun PowerMax MX2050 Blender is a cleverly designed, efficient machine that provides a vortex of power for smooth, dependable results.
This unit comes with a 8-1/2-inch-square base with rounded edges, a 525-watt motor, a 7.4-cup (59.2-ounce) glass blending jar and a plastic lid with removable cap. The triangular design of the blending jar lends itself well to producing extremely smooth drinks, soups or batters -- free from large chunks of food or ice particles.
The controls on the Braun PowerMax consist of a single dial with a choice of five speeds, as well as a pulse/clean option. Even operating on the lowest speed, we could see the strength of the motor as the blade pulled both liquids and solids into its path. The blender jar weighs just over 3 pounds when empty, which is relatively light for a glass jar, considering its large capacity. As previously mentioned, the jar is triangular in shape, but with rounded edges and no clear angles. The inside of the jar is smooth, except for three 1.5-inch ribs near the narrow base. The four-point stainless-steel blade has two serrated edges and two extra sharp straight edges, angled up and down for extremely thorough blending.
We were impressed with the performance of the blender not only when preparing milkshakes and other liquid-based drinks, but also for crushing ice cubes. The PowerMax turned cubed ice into a fine snowy substance, suitable for mixing into beverages or for preparing a bed of ice underneath cold hors d'oeuvres and other foods.
We also liked the easy-turn dial control switch, and appreciated the ability to choose a pulse setting in addition to the main speed settings. Several icons printed on the front of the unit suggest uses for the different speeds. The slower speeds (1-3) are well suited to lighter beverages, smoothies or gravies. The higher speeds (3-5) tackle heavier chores, such as pureeing vegetables or blending thick mixtures. The pulse option can be used whenever a quick burst of power is needed. This setting is particularly handy when you need to get things started or churn up some solids that may be just out of reach of the blade. The pulse burst literally propels the jar's contents up and lets everything settle again. Be sure the lid is firmly attached.
The Braun PowerMax blender has a larger capacity for oversize batches, and a sensible spout for easy pouring.
