Bosch B20CS50SN

Date Published: 2/13/08

Bosch's B20CS50SN is a sturdy, stylish counter-depth refrigerator that is a good choice for those looking for an attractive medium-capacity fridge.

While the Bosch B20CS50SN is a well-built, feature-rich unit, its features are mostly performance features. Although these features are quite impressive, this model seems a little light on the little welcome extras.

The interior of the Bosch B20CS50SN is full of sturdy shelving and bins, and both fridge and freezer compartments are nicely illuminated, though many of this model's great features are not apparent at first glance. For example, it has "Supercool" and "Superchill" functionalities; at the press of a button on the through-the-door water and ice delivery control panel, you can temporarily lower the temperature of the fresh foods and freezer compartments in order to keep foods already in the compartment at an optimal temperature when you place new items inside.

The B20CS50SN is a side-by-side model that has 12.71 cubic feet of space in the fresh foods compartment and 7.48 cubic feet of space in the freezer area. It is energy efficient -- it uses just 550 kWh of electricity each year -- so you can expect to pay approximately $58 annually to run it.

The refrigerator door of the B20CS50SN has one adjustable gallon-size pick-off door bin, three shallower clear pick-off door bins and a dairy compartment. Within the main compartment are two humidity-controlled vegetable crispers and one deli drawer, but it should be noted that this model lacks a temperature-controlled meat drawer or snack bin. There are also three adjustable slide-out glass shelves with a spill-saver feature. An egg caddy is also included.

The freezer interior is a work of art, with three glass shelves and two drawers. The freezer compartment also has the same type and quality of drawers as are found in the fresh foods area, which makes storing and accessing frozen foods a pleasure. The freezer door has four solid, sturdy plastic bins.

We like the through-the-door ice and water dispenser on the Bosch B20CS50SN. It delivers water and ice made through an integral filter, which is located in the refrigerator's main compartment. The readout is bright and clear. Functions include temperature control of fresh food and freezer compartments, ice or water selection and a lockout feature. It also has an alarm that lets you know when the door has been left open.

The B20CS50SN comes in four colors -- white, black, stainless steel and stainless steel look.

The Bosch B20CS50SN makes a nice choice for those who want a medium-sized refrigerator but don't need all the frills available in similar models.

Pros: Sleek and stylish, great performance features like "Superfreeze" and "Superchill" functions
Cons: Lacks extras, through-the-door ice mechanism takes up a lot of freezer space

Warranty
1 year, parts and labor
