BodyCraft K1

Date Published: 12/4/07

The BodyCraft K1 is a home gym designed for serious workout enthusiasts. It is built around a horizontal bench, which offers greater flexibility in workout routines but inevitably requires more space. You'll need 10.25X5 feet for this gym, but if you can find the space, we think you'll be rewarded with some excellent workouts.

The K1 was undoubtedly built to last; the frame is constructed of heavy-duty 11- and 12-gauge steel, and the bench upholstery is made from double-stitched vinyl over high-density foam. The bench quickly adjusts between horizontal and vertical configurations, and it even folds out of the way to allow you to perform squats. The weight stack offers 200 pounds of steel plates within a noise-dampening safety enclosure; while this may not impress serious body builders, the double-up cables convert the resistance ratio to 2:1 for certain exercises; this means that for squats and presses, for example, you can pump up to 400 pounds of weight.

The press arm station folds out of the way for dumbbell-like exercises from the adjustable clutch cable arms, including standing or seated bicep curls, chest flies and cable presses. The K1 doesn't neglect your lower body, either; the included leg extension and leg curl station will blast your quadriceps and hamstrings from either a seated or lying position. This home gym also offers an optional leg press attachment that offers up to 400 pounds of resistance and will add about a nominal fee to the price of the K1.

While finding the space to house this home gym will be challenging for shoppers living in an apartment or condo, if you have the space and are serious about your home workouts, we highly recommend this machine. The BodyCraft K1 is a good value that offers a range of challenging workouts and should provide years of rewarding exercise.

Pros: Sturdy construction, provides both upper and lower body workouts, up to 400 pounds of resistance, good value
Cons: Requires a great deal of space
