BlueStar 36-Inch Cooktop RGTNB364GSS
Date Published: 9/30/08
BlueStar's 36-Inch Cooktop RGTNB364GSS is the ultimate choice in commercial-style gas cooktops for the home. Admired by the uber-chef crowd, this rangetop style model offers an UltraNova power burner with a maximum gas output of 22,000 Btu -- the highest burner output currently available for the home.
A burner of this power will be incredibly fast at boiling and provide incredibly high heat -- so hot in fact that you'll want to make sure that your installation is not near any combustible material. Be sure to use a fire-safe backsplash and to ensure proper ventilation.
In addition to the powerful UltraNova burner, the remaining Nova burners on this BlueStar four-burner/griddle model offer a maximum of 15,000 Btu, which is typical of the high output burners we see on models in the commercial-style category for the home. At the other end of the spectrum, we expect a cooktop at this high price to offer incredible control at its lowest output. True to form, the RGTNB364GSS does just that, holding a simmer to as low as 130 degrees Fahrenheit.
Like a true commercial range, this model has open burners. A bit more challenging to keep clean than the usual sealed burners, this design is more authentic to restaurant-style ranges. The difference is that with these open burners, you'll need to roll out the drip trays for cleaning after each use. We recommend that you make sure you're up to the challenge of this cleaning task before you opt for this truly professional model.
This BlueStar 36-inch cooktop comes equipped with a 15,000-Btu center griddle that's ideal for breakfast favorites, grilled sandwiches and panini. It can alternatively be outfitted with six burners, or four burners and a charbroiler, which is a perfect option for steaks, chops and other meats.
An ideal model for the ultimate kitchen, we find very little not to like about the expensive RGTNB364GSS. Just make sure you install this BlueStar fire-blaster safely and are up to the task of cleaning it after use.
Pros: UltraNova and Nova burners offer a superior range of power for versatile food preparation
