Black & Decker PHV1800 Pivot Cordless Hand Vacuum
Date Published: 1/31/07
A new take on a familiar workhorse, the Black & Decker PHV1800 Pivot Cordless Hand Vacuum is shaped more like a chain saw than a cordless vacuum. And like a chain saw, this little machine is formidable.
Drawing 18 volts from its rechargeable battery, this model boasts about 35 percent more suction power than a typical hand vac. This pick-up power is complemented by PHV1800's long, thin nose that fits easily into the tightest of spots. And to give you even more access to dirt, the extension "nose" pivots to 10 different positions, so you can reach and clean even hard to reach angled areas.
Perfect for slipping between the refrigerator and the wall, or down, in and around seat cushions, this small vacuum is one of the first revolutionary ideas this category has seen in some time. The price, which is a bit higher than a good quality "dust buster", is more than fair by our standards.
Two speeds are offered on this rechargeable model. Use the high speed for big messes and opt for the low speed in order to extend cleaning time.
Cyclonic action keeps dirt moving inside the vac and helps to keep the three-stage filtration system free of debris. For immediate suction improvement, simply rotate the handle on the EZ clean wheel system to remove dust from the filter. Dirt you pick up will collect in the side-mounted dirt bowl. One simple step allows you to open the bowl and dump out the accumulated dust without touching it. When finished vacuuming, the nozzle of the PHV-1800 folds down for compact storage.
Recharging is done in the wall mountable charging base. Also included is a crevice tool and an upholstery brush. Black & Decker sells replacement filters (PVF-100) that will extend the life of this tool.
Given the disposability of hand vacuums, paying a bit more for the unique PHV-1800 is a purchase worth considering.
