Black & Decker NS118 cordless blower
Date Published: 4/23/07
The Black & Decker NS118 cordless electric blower can sweep debris off your driveway, deck or other hard surface without the hassle of a long extension cord or the mess of mixing fuel. It is just what it's advertised to be: a cordless broom hard surface sweeper, nothing more or less.
An 18-volt rechargeable NiCad battery pack powers the Black & Decker NS118, and two battery packs come standard with this model. The battery pack attaches easily and the unit operates with just the flip of a large, well-placed on/off button. At peak performance, each battery should offer about 15 minutes of full power.
Think of the Black & Decker NS118 as a powered outdoor broom. We found it to be very capable of performing the chores that it was designed to perform. A broken-in, fully charged battery ran for about 15 minutes before any loss of blowing power. The NS118 blew debris off the deck, short driveway and garage floor on one charge of the battery. Because it weighs just 5.5 pounds and is nicely balanced, the NS118 does not cause fatigue or strain on the user's back or shoulders. And one-handed operation is a snap with the large on/off switch.
The NS118 blower is significantly quieter than most other corded electric or gas models. If you purchase an extra battery charger, you can keep both batteries fully charged, thus doubling the amount of time you can use the blower in one work session.
If you want to retire your outdoor broom or don't want to drag out a heavy-duty blower for every little job, the Black & Decker NS118 just might be your answer. It is quiet, easy to use, very light and doesn't need an electrical cord or gas fuel.
Pros: Quiet, no electrical cord, very light weight, includes second battery pack, non-polluting, 3-hour battery recharge time
Cons: Limited blowing power, no vacuum function, designed for hard surfaces only
