The long reach and nice balance of the Black & Decker HedgeHog HH2450 corded electric hedge trimmer make it a good choice for grooming hedges in hard-to-reach places. It is lightweight and the in-line body is easy to handle.
The 3.3-amp electric motor resides in line with the blades and controls the 24-inch dual-action blades. This Black & Decker HedgeHog cuts branches up to 3/4-inch with its 2800 cutting strokes per minute. The HH2450 weighs just 6.2 pounds and comes fully assembled and ready to use right out of the box.
We liked the innovative design of the Black & Decker HH2450. With its better balance then previous models, it is easy to use and control. We were able to prune a couple of feet over our heads with the 24-inch blade because of that good balance and because the unit weighs so little. These same features also allowed us to prune a wide hedge. In addition, the long blade made the cutting go more quickly than it would have with a shorter blade. Because it uses dual-action blades, the unit vibrates far less than single-action units. We think that's another reason we were able to use the unit without undue fatigue. We also liked the convenience of plug-and-go of the electric unit.
The hardened steel blades of this HedgeHog should stay sharp through several uses. The pigtail cord helps keep the extension cord securely attached. A lock-on switch allows for continuous cutting and a lock-off switch prevents accidental starting.
The Black & Decker HH2450 HedgeHog gives good cutting performance in a lightweight, well-balanced, long-bladed trimmer with the convenience of a plug-in unit. It will work well for the homeowner with wide or high hedges or bushes within 100-feet of a power outlet.
