Black & Decker FP1550S 10-cup Food Processor
Date Published: 8/19/08
Black & Decker's FP1550S 10-cup Food Processor is a stylish, efficient unit that simplifies tedious food preparation tasks. This model has a brushed stainless steel and black base, which houses a powerful 500-watt motor. It comes with a 10-cup clear work bowl, a stainless steel chopping blade, a plastic dough blade, a reversible slicing/shredding disc and clear cover with feed tube and food pusher.
Like many other models, the work bowl on this unit twist-locks on top of the motor base. We liked the design, which conserves space and puts the bowl (and its contents) closer to eye level. A large handle on the front of the bowl aids in positioning and removal of the bowl. Three touchpad controls on the front of the base provide easy operation in either pulse or continuous processing modes. For quick, efficient chopping, we liked the pulse operation, which activates the blade in short bursts, allowing the contents to settle.
We found the Black & Decker FP1550S to be extremely capable with tasks such as pureeing cooked vegetables, making bread crumbs and shredding cheese. It accomplished all the tasks we put to it without missing a beat. The 10-pound base sits firmly on the counter.
The 500-watt motor on this model is surprisingly quiet and extremely fast -- accomplishing most tasks in seconds. The reversible slicing/shredding disc delivers evenly sliced or shredded produce. You can obtain different thicknesses by pressing harder or softer on the food pusher. To obtain even slices, you need to maintain a consistent pressure. The feed tube is not large enough to accommodate a whole onion or tomato; however, long items, such as carrots and celery, can be stacked and processed nicely. For the price, the Black & Decker FP1550S is a bargain machine that delivers above average results.
