Black & Decker FireStorm FS3000ROS 5-inch random orbit sander with jug handle
Date Published: 5/3/07
It may look a little like a high-tech coffee pot, but Black & Decker's FireStorm FS3000ROS random orbit sander uses that unique design to really deliver as an effective -- and inexpensive -- tool. The jug handle affords a good amount of control, and lets the user hang onto the sander wherever it's convenient. You can also grab the sander in two other convenient places, either on the top of the tool or on the neck, both of which are covered with comfortable soft grips.
The sander is run by a nicely powerful 2.4-amp motor, which provides more juice than some more expensive competitors. It's also got a 12-foot cord, which gives you a few extra feet to work with than most. The FireStorm FS3000ROS random orbit sander also has an easily removable dust-collection system, a built-in brake pad, and an on-off switch that's sealed to keep dust out. With its less-than-$40 price and 5-inch disc, this well-designed unit is a good choice for moderate-level sanding and paint-removal jobs, and receives Consumer Guide's Budget Buy designation.
Pros: Versatile handle and grips
Cons: Moderate-sized disc
