You can operate the entire line of a dozen 18-volt Firestorm tools -- as well as Black & Decker's 18-volt outdoor power tools -- with just one interchangeable battery. It's important to note, though, that the battery is sold separately. For around $80, you get the hammer drill all by itself; a battery and charger combination is available for an additional $25.

The convenience of the multi-use battery aside, the 18-volt cordless hammer drill is a mighty impressive tool. It delivers all the power you'll need for even the heaviest-duty tasks, and with the twist of a dial, it switches to hammer drill mode for drilling into masonry or brick. The same dial lets you adjust the torque to fit the job, and the 32-position trigger clutch makes it easy to deliver the precise amount of force.

The hammer handle loosens with a twist and can be positioned on either side of the drill. The Firestorm FSX18HD 18-volt cordless hammer drill/driver is by no means a lightweight tool, but we found that the power it delivers more than makes up for its bulk.
