The Black & Decker Brew 'N Go Deluxe Personal Coffeemaker DCM18 is a compact machine that delivers one serving of coffee at a time. This unit is ideal for singles, students or anyone who is constantly on the go.

The unit consists of a space-saving black base with flip-up lid, a removable filter basket with a permanent mesh filter and a 15-ounce insulated travel mug with brew-through lid. The model we tested came with an insulated thermal mug.

The Brew 'N Go Deluxe is one of the most compact machines available, making it ideal for small kitchens, apartments or dorm rooms. The semi-circular base measures approximately 6.8 inches in both width and depth at its widest points and stands about 10.3 inches tall. The unit's built-in water reservoir accepts up to two cups of water; this amount delivers a very full mug of coffee, which is fine if you take your coffee black. To allow room for cream and sugar, you should use slightly less water.

A single "On" switch activates the brewing, which takes about 4 minutes to complete. The coffee continues to drip for another minute or two afterwards, so you need to leave the mug in place during that time. Once the brew cycle is done, the unit shuts itself off automatically. The coffee emerges nice and hot. For best results, you should run hot water into the mug to warm it before brewing; if you don't, some heat will be lost.

The travel mug is contoured to fit most car cup holders and has a slip-free rubberized handle grip. Purchasing an extra mug is a good idea if you have two coffee drinkers in the household or if you simply want to drink a cup and then have another ready to take with you when you head out the door.

We love the DCM18's sensible design, including its permanent mesh filter, which eliminates the need for paper disposable filters. The Brew 'N Go Deluxe can also be used without coffee grounds to dispense hot water for tea, hot cocoa, instant soups and more. The mug, lid, filter basket and mesh filter are top-rack dishwasher-safe for easy cleanup.
