Black & Decker 9-Inch Trimmer ST1000

Date Published: 3/9/06

The 9-inch cutting swath of the ST1000 electric string trimmer is among Black & Decker's smallest (only the cordless 8-inch trimmer is tinier), but it comes with the company's smallest price tag, as well. This unit works well for light-duty trimming and, other than its compact size and economical less-than-$20 price, doesn't feature any must-have luxuries. Its light weight is by far its biggest asset. At just 3.2 pounds, it barely weighs more than a rake, which makes it easy to maneuver in and out of tight spaces, store, or use for long periods. The ST1000 uses a bump-and-feed spool, which means you need to tap the trimmer against the ground to release more line. Its sleek, basic design does feature a cord retention system to keep the extension cord from coming unplugged during use.
