Bissell QuickSteamer 1770
Date Published: 3/12/07
The lowest priced model in the Bissell collection of carpet cleaners, the QuickSteamer 1770 lacks the number one feature that makes for the best performance -- an onboard heater. While some users found this model sufficient for homes with small amounts of lightly soiled carpet, those with bigger messes to clean found it lacking.
The onboard tank holds just 1/2 gallon of liquid, so you won't be going far before you'll need to dump out your waste water and get a refill of fresh water. Since the 1770 doesn't have an onboard heater, you'll also need to make sure the water you add is as hot as possible and that you work quickly -- before it cools off.
Those who have nasty pet stains and other serious messes should probably look elsewhere for a better model to handle those chores. This model is not intended for those big jobs. With the smallest number of brushes of any of the Bissell models, the QuickSteamer 1770 is intended for small areas of carpet in need of a quick perk-up.
At 12 pounds, this model is lighter in weight than many other models, making it easier to pull out and use to quickly groom a small area. Users with small homes and apartments, with light traffic, small amounts of carpet and no messy pets were the only users satisfied with this entry-level model. Owners of large, busy homes with pets, kids and lots of traffic gave it the thumbs down and preferred machines with heaters and a larger water tank.
The price tag on Bissell's QuickSteamer 1770 makes it attractive, but only if your home has a limited amount of carpet and your priority is a machine that is light in weight.
Pros: Lightweight, lowest priced Bissell machine
Cons: Lacks onboard heater, small water tank, least amount of brushes on Bissell machine
