Bissell ProHeat 2X CleanShot 9500
Date Published: 7/2/08
If you're looking for a carpet cleaner with plenty of extra features, the Bissell ProHeat 2X CleanShot 9500 is sure to fit the bill. It marries all the features we've come to expect from the ProHeat 2X series with a CleanShot sprayer to tackle problem areas and a built-in dryer that applies dry heat to carpets.
The DryAire feature, which blows dry heat onto carpets after they are cleaned, is a unique feature we don't often see on carpet cleaners. We like this feature because one of the problems we typically encounter with carpet cleaning machines is that they leave carpets too damp for our liking. The Bissell ProHeat 2X CleanShot 9500 extracts an impressive amount of liquid from carpets, and the addition of the DryAire feature helps them dry even more quickly. The CleanShot feature, by comparison, is a bit gimmicky. While it may save a step by shooting detergent directly on problem areas, it's not an essential feature. Still, it can come in handy when one notices an area that needs more cleaning coverage.
The ProHeat 2X CleanShot 9500 has six attachment tools. So many, in fact, that there is no longer room for all of them to nest on board. A handy mesh bag is included to store extra tools, but keep in mind you'll need to find a bit more storage space to accommodate the tools. One of our favorite tools is the bare floor attachment that allows one to use the ProHeat 2X CleanShot 9500 on hardwood floors, tile, linoleum and other bare surfaces. This tool works quite well, especially for large areas, and really increases the versatility of this machine. The handheld carpet and upholstery tools, along with a TurboBrush and spraying crevice tool, are nice additions to the attachment offerings -- and also clean quite well. This model also has an antimicrobial feature that deters the growth of mold, mildew and bacteria -- all the stuff that creates offensive odors.
We like the ability to customize the amount of detergent used, thanks to a dial that can be changed to different settings. There is a rinse-only feature that helps cleanse floors of detergent residue. We especially like the built-in heater that increases the temperature of hot tap water as much as 25 degrees hotter. While the Bissell is not a true "steam cleaner" because it does not produce steam, its built-in heater offers users the next best thing. Plus, it transfers heat through the attachment hose. Being able to apply heat when using the attachments greatly increases the cleaning efficiency of the attachments. Overall, we like the Bissell ProHeat 2X CleanShot 9500 for its cleaning power, built-in heater and dryer, and other extra features -- which earns this model our Best Buy designation. If, however, budget is a concern, there are other models in the ProHeat series that offer many of the same features for less.
