The Bissell Easy Vac 3108 is designed to catch your eye and your wallet with its 2-in-1 versatility. Sold primarily as a stick vac, this lightweight bagless model doubles as a large hand vac. The option of getting two tools for the price of one is enticing, but we find the detatchable hand vac to be large, bulky and uncomfortable to use for more than just a short time. You have to hold the base with one hand and clean with the hose and tool in the other. Bissell has tried billing the detachable unit as a canister, but without wheels, it's hard to understand just how this unit replaces a canister vacuum.

All this criticism aside, the Bissell Easy Vac 3108 makes a fine choice when used for its primary purpose -- as a stick vacuum. With two motors, it's appropriate for cleaning floors and with the power brush in the "on" position, as surface dirt can be quickly cleaned from carpets. When you encounter dirt that can't be picked up with the head, the convenience of pulling out the hose and tool is another feature that just can't be beat.

The crevice tool on this model can be used when the unit is in either stick or hand vac mode. With 5 feet of stretchable hose, you have a moderate degree of reach, which can be extended by removing the canister portion and holding it in your hand while you climb a step-stool to dust shelves or vacuum cobwebs from walls.

The dirt cup is easy to empty. A generous 18-foot cord gives you plenty of reach and is easily accessed thanks to a quick cord release. We like the head on this model a lot. It offers edge cleaning on both sides and has non-marring wheels that are great on hardwood.

All in all, the Bissell Easy Vac 3108 is a fine purchase, as long as your primary interest in it is not to replace a lightweight, convenient hand vac.
