Bissell Big Green Complete Canister 7700

The Bissell Big Green Complete Canister 7700 is a three-in-one machine. It can be used to vacuum and shampoo carpets, and wash hardwood floors.
We often are fans of products that offer a range of uses, so we were ready to put the Bissell Big Green Complete Canister through its paces. Because our main goal was to determine how well the machine vacuumed, we tested this feature first. We vacuumed a delicate area rug, and the Big Green pulled up surface debris with ease, thanks to an air-driven revolving brush. We also tested the vacuum on a utility-grade carpet, and it worked quite well.
When we moved to a high-pile carpet, the results were markedly different. The air-driven brush had trouble revolving, and it didn't pick up soil below the surface. It was a disappointing performance. The Big Green has many of the helpful accessories that come with traditional vacuums, such as a crevice tool, upholstery brush and dusting brush, and our testing revealed these tools work adequately. We particularly like the use of a water filtration system to filter large debris, as well as a washable foam filter for additional allergen and dust collection.
The Big Green works better as a carpet shampooer than as a vacuum. It has a built-in heater that raises the temperature of tap water up 25 degrees hotter. This is a nice feature, and one not always available on carpet cleaners. As a carpet shampooer, the Big Green pulled up most -- not all -- dirt and stains from carpets, but left them too damp for our liking. It took the carpets nearly a day to dry and as they dried, a few of the stains began to reappear. We thought the Big Green had successfully removed the stains, but that was not the case. The Big Green has additional tools to clean bare floors, including sealed hardwood floors. The bare floor attachment offered more positive results. It left the floor with a clean, reflective shine.
Although we typically jump at the chance to recommend products that serve multiple purposes, the Bissell Big Green Complete Canister 7700 falls short. It doesn't excel as a vacuum or as a carpet shampooer. We liked its ability to clean hardwood floors, but the unit is so heavy and bulky that we're more likely to opt for a lightweight steam mop for everyday cleaning. Rather than recommend the Bissell Big Green Complete Canister 7700, we'd suggest investing in a canister vacuum that can really do the job.
