Bissell Big Green Canister Deep Cleaner
Date Published: 4/6/06
Bissell's big, bulky tank of a cleaner holds 2 gallons of water and uses suction power for dry vacuuming, wet vacuuming, and deep cleaning. Our gripe with the Big Green Canister is that it's no longer available with a powerhead.
The powerhead attachment was popular and did a good job of loosening up fibers to remove soil. This model, minus the powerhead, just can't clean as deeply.
It still pumps plenty of water into carpets, upholstery, or car interiors, and does an acceptable job as long as you don't have ground-in stains or messy soils embedded in thick carpet.
Our second concern with this model is that it lacks water-heating capability. Many machines in this price range now offer an onboard heater for the water. The hotter the water, the more thorough the cleaning. You can keep adding hot water, but this adds lots of time to the task.
However, unlike some other deep cleaning machines, the Bissell Big Green can be used for vacuuming as well as cleaning. It makes a practical choice for the garage. While it's in the garage, you may also want to opt to store it there. It's really quite large and difficult to fit into a typical closet.
Pros: Big tank
Cons: No powerhead, no heater, cumbersome
