The ice-crushing capability is superb. You can mix a perfectly blended fruit smoothie, lemon ice, or frozen daiquiri in about a minute. This unit comes with a heavy-duty brushed chrome/cast-metal base, 64-ounce glass carafe with handle and built-in dispensing spigot, plastic lid with removable cap, and plastic stir stick. There are four pushbutton controls: pulse, low/dispense, high and off. The stir stick can be used to help direct solids down to the blade; however, we found this unit to be so efficient that use of the stir stick was not necessary. An interchangeable cap lets you remove the spigot and close the opening so the blender can be used to process dry ingredients, as well as liquids. The clever design of the base lets the carafe slip right into a pre-formed cutout so it doesn't jostle around during mixing. The oversize spigot is great for dispensing--if the mixture is overly thick you can leave the motor running on low to help move the smoothie out into your cups.
