Baby Trend Galaxy Shuttle Travel System 1981CT

Date Published: 10/17/08

The Baby Trend Galaxy Shuttle Travel System is a study in practicality. It has an easy-to-use infant car seat, as well as a comfortable full-size stroller. Plus, the travel system features a shimmering, modern fabric.

We often sing the praises of travel systems -- sets that include an infant car seat and matching stroller -- because they are one of the most convenient purchases a parent can make.

We were initially attracted to the Baby Trend Galaxy Shuttle Travel System because of its price. For about $200, the set seems like a solid purchase. The stroller has a five-point harness and a handbrake, as well as a tether strap to keep the pusher and passenger connected. It has large tires, which make for a smoother ride. Plus, we like the large storage, generous canopy and parent tray with two cup-holders. The seat is comfortably padded and has a multi-position recline. We find the fabric on both the stroller and car seat relatively easy to wipe clean. The stroller is easy to fold, but we wish it automatically locked when folded as do some Baby Trend models. Unfortunately, the act of folding the stroller causes the tray to come in contact with the ground; the tray becomes scratched and dirty.

The Baby Trend Galaxy Shuttle Travel System comes with a Flex-Loc infant car seat that can attach to the stroller. It also comes with a leave-in-car base that is easy to install. However, the mechanism that releases the car seat from the base can be difficult to reach because it is under the seat. The car seat can be used without the base. As one might expect, the car seat has a five-point harness. The harness is both pleasingly simple and annoyingly difficult to adjust. The shoulder height of the harness straps can be adjusted with the turn of a knob; the button to tighten or loosen the straps is hidden under a flap of fabric on the seat. Not only is it hard to find, but once you find it, it's not easy to use.

Overall, we like the Baby Trend Galaxy Shuttle Travel System for its functionality and good looks. If the manufacturer can fix a few minor design flaws, it will be a hands-down winner.

Pros: Reclining seat, easy clean fabric
Cons: Not easy to adjust straps or release from base
