Avanti W789SA
Date Published: 7/7/04
Avanti's top-of-the-line W789SA compact washing machine is portable as well as compact, so you must roll it to the sink to do the wash.
Unlike Avanti's less expensive model, this one offers sophisticated digital electronic controls with a display panel. While it makes a great choice for an apartment that's short on space, its 12-pound capacity is fairly small. Don't plan on washing more than one set of linens at a time in this washer.
We especially like the unusual addition of a stainless-steel tub. Such durable, rust and chip resistant material in a compact washer is hard to find. While the tub is exceptional, the settings here are fairly standard--this machine offers four typical wash cycles. It also has a detergent case and dispensers for both bleach and fabric softener. In order to use this model, access to a water source and a sink drain will be required, as well as access to standard household, electrical current.
Fairly efficient for a small, modestly priced unit, the Avanti W789SA meets the most recent federal energy standards. Look for this model at appliance stores in urban areas or order it from your favorite online retailer.
Pros: Stainless tub, digital controls
Cons: Small capacity
