Avanti 322Y

We love refrigerators and freezers that have thoughtful, flexible interior storage options, so Avanti's 322Y compact refrigerator is obviously a Consumer Guide favorite.
The Avanti 322Y has a small capacity -- only 3.2 cubic feet total -- but the manufacturer has decked this model out with exceptionally well-thought-out door storage that enables this unit to accommodate containers of widely varying dimensions. The exterior of this model is plain and no-nonsense, although the back is flush and has no exposed mechanical equipment, like some refrigerators do. It has a slim, counter-height design that is quite different than the short, boxy designs that many compact refrigerators sport.
We especially like the door storage of the 322Y; it has a can rack that's capable of holding up to seven cans, a bottom shelf that can hold a 2-liter bottle and a liter bottle, a small half-width shelf for holding a couple of condiment bottles and a full-width top shelf. The shelf material feels a bit flimsy, but it should hold up well under normal usage.
Inside the refrigerator compartment are three slide-out full-width white wire shelves. This model has four possible shelf levels and three shelves, so the shelves can be adjusted for height or even removed entirely to make room for especially tall items. We would, however, like to see glass shelves in this unit, which would lend a much more upscale feel to this model.
The 322Y does not have a true freezer, but it does have a "chiller compartment" that comes with an ice tray; it is designed for items that you might want to quickly cool, but it is only for short-term storage, since it doesn't get cold enough to safely store foods for very long. The temperature control dial is on the top-front of the inside compartment; it is simple and easy to use.
Avanti's 322Y is available in either white or black.
The Avanti 322Y is a basic refrigerator with exceptional door storage, and is a great choice for those who are looking for a counter-height unit.
Pros: Flexible door storage, counter-height
Cons: Wire shelving instead of glass, door shelves could feel more substantial
