Audiovox FPE3205 32-inch LCD TV
Date Published: 10/26/07
The FPE3205 is a 32-inch LCD TV that is ready for high-definition content, with a wide-format screen and PC compatibility. The speakers are located on either side of the flat-panel screen, and the cabinet can tilt and swivel on its base or be mounted on the wall using the included bracket (one of the few models to include mounting hardware). The control buttons on the back of the monitor are a bit hard to reach, however.
A separate HD receiver is required for high-definition programming, but standard-definition content and progressive scan DVD all look sharp and clear on this LCD TV. The native resolution is 1,366X768, with a contrast ratio of 800:1 and more than 16 million colors displayable. Detail and brightness are better than average, and movies are at their best thanks to 3:2 and 2:2 pulldown conversion. The viewing angle is 170 degrees horizontally and vertically, so the FPE3205 can be enjoyed from almost anywhere in the room.
The internal audio system delivers 14 watts of stereo output from the twin speakers, which is a modest amount of sound for a 32-inch TV. The audio can be adjusted to simulate surround sound, and several presets are available for quick switches between movies, music, and news. The FPE3205 has picture-in-picture viewing, along with a full-screen freeze, an adjustable sleep timer, a previous channel return, and memory for the settings of each input.
There are no front inputs or outputs on the FPE3205, so it is not especially convenient to connect occasional components such as camcorders or video game consoles. Rear inputs are available to accommodate a VCR, DVD player, PC, and other sources, with one RF input, two composite video inputs, one S-video input/output, one DVI input, one HD component video input, and one D-sub input for a PC, along with one composite video output and a headphone jack. The included remote control has a flip panel at the base to keep the number of exposed buttons to a reasonable level.
