The Audiovox D1710 is an ideal portable DVD player for anyone planning a trip overseas. The unit's AC power adapter accepts from 100 to 240 volts, so the unit can operate or be recharged in most foreign locations. As well as NTSC discs, the D1710 also reads non-region DVD in the PAL format, so users can purchase and enjoy discs while traveling around Europe. A simple switch toggles the unit between the NTSC and PAL formats.

The unit's 7-inch TFT active matrix widescreen display is large enough for two people to comfortably enjoy. The images produced are generally sharp with excellent resolution and bright, well-saturated colors, and the screen has an antireflective and antiglare coating that keeps the D1710 watchable even while sitting in the sun.

Audio performance from the player's built-in speakers is adequate as long as there isn't a huge amount of background noise, although the sound quality is much more pleasing when listening via headphones.

This portable model can also be used as a home DVD player or as a secondary player for a bedroom or kitchen, and it can route Dolby Digital and DTS 5.1 surround sound signals to a compatible A/V receiver. The D1710 also comes with a full-feature credit card-style remote control.
