The Audiovox D1020 is a tablet-style portable DVD player with a slot-type DVD tray. The unit is powered by either an AC adapter or a car's cigarette lighter, and since this model doesn't include or even accept a battery pack, it is not suitable for use on a plane or anywhere else that doesn't offer a convenient power source. The D1020 does boast several key selling points, however. It offers an array of advanced features; it comes complete with all the accessories a user will ever need, and the unit's huge 10-inch LCD screen produces quality images.

Overall the D1020 performs very well. DVD movies appear crisp and sharp with very good resolution and contrast. The cigarette lighter power adapter features a wireless FM modulator that enables DVD/CD audio to broadcast a vehicle sound system. The quality of audio varies according to the quality of the radio reception at any given place. Alternately, the D1020 includes two wireless infrared headphones, as well as a pair of detachable wireless speakers that click on and off with relative ease (although the speakers do not function when detached).

The accessories include a mounting kit with straps so the player can be installed between a car's two front seats, allowing kids in the back to comfortably view the screen. The mounting is surprisingly solid yet still quick and easy to set up and disassemble. The only downside to the mounting design is that if the driver's seat and the front passenger seat are not at the same angle and adjusted for the same amount of legroom, the D1020 will be left on a slant, making the screen difficult for some backseat viewers to watch.

The D1020 includes an integrated NTSC cable-ready tuner and a remote control, so it can double as a second DVD player around the house. The monitor features a foldout stand on its back, so the player will sit upright like a picture frame.
