The Audiovox CE248 is a competent, albeit limited, boom box. However, its built-in cassette player/recorder give it an advantage over many similarly priced competitors.

The CE248 is centered on its top-loading CD player. Although it is tucked away on the top, the placement of the CD player leaves more space on the front for the cassette player. The cassette is also nicely designed, and it includes an auto-stop feature that conserves battery power and protects the ends of cassette tapes. The recorder can record from either the radio or CD player.

The CE248 has stereo speakers placed on the outside corners of the boom box, which creates a satisfactorily wide stereo image. The dark finish of the cabinet resists dirt marks, making it ideal for use in the kitchen or workroom. However, the Audiovox CE248 is so portable that in can be easily moved from room to room.
