ATN Autopark 2000 backup system

Date Published: 5/16/08

As vehicles keep getting bigger and bigger, the blind spot behind them grows apace. This is just one reason that SUV drivers (and anyone else, for that matter) would benefit from the safety afforded by the ATN Autopark 2000 backup system.

The Autopark 2000 is a very simple system, employing infrared sensors and emitters to detect obstacles directly behind the vehicle. It attaches to the standard screws holding on the rear license plate. There is no need to drill into the vehicle body, unless vehicle owners choose to install it that way.

The system activates when reverse is engaged, and drivers are alerted to obstacles via a series of tones emitted by the included speaker. No sound means no obstacle, the first tone indicates that an obstacle is 2 to 4 feet away, and the higher-pitched warning tone means only 6 inches to 2 feet separate the vehicle from an obstacle. The ranges of each zone are adjustable by the user, and the sensor has about a 40-degree pickup pattern.

The system is a snap to install and very affordable, so anyone interested in increasing his or her vehicle safety factor (and that should be everyone!) should check out the Autopark 2000.
