Atlantic Technology's THX Select-certified System 4200e speaker package is quite amazing. To put it plainly, most home theater speakers just sit there, with all sonic controls and adjustments performed by the connected amplifier or receiver. However, the System 4200e speakers are different. The front speakers of this five-piece package have a high-frequency control that adjusts the treble response dependent on placement and room acoustics. The center channel has a switch that adjusts for placement close to a TV or monitor, and the satellites can also be switched between dipole and bipole configurations. The ability to adjust the speakers' response independent of the receiver adds a new level of sound refinement possibilities to a home theater system.

The System 4200e's front left and right speakers each use a pair of 5-1/4-inch woofers separated by a 1-inch silk dome tweeter. The center speaker uses the same drivers in a tighter configuration, with the woofers side-by-side and the tweeter slightly above them. The center speaker has a base that can be tilted to the optimal listening position. All three front speakers are magnetically shielded for placement near a TV screen. The 4200e SR surround speakers each use a 4-1/2-inch woofer and a 1-inch tweeter on each side of the wedge design, with one pair angled toward the front of the room and one pair aimed toward the back.

The frequency response of all the speakers is 80Hz to 20,000Hz, with a sensitivity of 90dB and a recommended power handling of 10 watts to 150 watts (average). Keep in mind that this speaker package doesn't include a subwoofer. For anyone who enjoys fine-tuning the sound (and has rather deep pockets), the Atlantic Technology System 4200e is just the system.
