ATI All-in-Wonder X1900 Video Card

Date Published: 5/15/08

ATI's All-in-Wonder line of video cards is great if you are looking to boost your gaming and multimedia performance at the same time. The X1900 continues that tradition.

Featuring the GPU (graphics processing unit) from ATI's current generation of video cards, the X1900 offers excellent 3-D gaming performance. The GPU is slowed down a bit on this card, so you won't get as fast a performance as with ATI's high-end dedicated gaming video cards, but it's definitely no slouch either. For example, this video card features a healthy 256MB of GDDR3 video memory.

The X1900 also functions as a TV tuner card, letting you input a television signal and watch, pause and record your favorite TV shows right on your PC. ATI includes its Remote Wonder Plus remote control, so you can put this video card into a PC in your living room or den and sit back to watch. The card features only a single TV tuner, so you won't be able to watch one show and record another as you can with a dual tuner.

The software bundle includes ATI's Multimedia Center for handling all the digital video recorder (DVR) tasks. Serious multitaskers can even make a full-screen TV show partially transparent to continue working in the background.

On the back of the X1900 is a connector for an included FM antenna, which lets you listen to radio signals through your PC. This is another nice touch if you're putting this card into a home theater setup. You can also output to a digital TV via the dongle hub that ATI bundles with this video card, although the tuner won't support HD input.

The X1900 is a PCI Express x16 video card, so you'll need a motherboard that has the latest graphics slot available. ATI retails the video card for around $250, which is a nice price for a current-generation gaming board that also incorporates TV tuning capabilities.

If you need both high-end gaming performance as well as a way to convert your computer into a DVR, ATI's All-in-Wonder X1900 is the video card that gives you the best of both worlds.

Pros: Great gaming performance, TV tuner capabilities
Cons: No HD input

Warranty
1 year, limited
