Asko Front-Load Washer W6461
Date Published: 7/6/07
Compact in size, but long on quality, the Asko Front-Load Washer W6461 is a unique product, sold in fairly small quantities in the United States. Made in Sweden, each of these Asko washers is tested before it leaves the factory. This practice helps keep down initial failure rates and has prompted Asko to back the model with an atypical 3-year warranty.
When considering this model, you will want to keep in mind that it is best for laundry rooms or laundry closets that are limited in space. Measuring less than 24 inches across, the W6461 can be used where few other high-quality machines will fit. It lends itself well to stacked and under-counter installations. Available in a titanium finish in addition to the typical white and stainless steel, it is a popular product designed to make a statement in prestigious homes.
The W6461 differs from other models in that it has a drop-down front door. This design works well in many installations, but can make it a poor choice for narrow galley-style kitchens or hallways.
When it comes to energy efficiency, this model is outstanding. Energy Star qualified, the W6461 can complete a load of laundry using just 0.3 kWh of electricity and 5.7 gallons of water in quick mode. Keep in mind, though, that one of the reasons it's so efficient is that it is quite small in capacity. With an interior of about 2.7 cubic feet, it is smaller than most of the American front-loaders and comparable in size to the expensive washers manufactured by Miele.
Although the fact that each model is tested before it leaves the factory limits the initial failure rate, those that experience problems may find these washers a challenge when it comes to repairs. Distribution in the United States is somewhat limited, so you will want to be sure that there is a reliable servicing agent in your area before you make this purchase.
We recommend this product for those who don't anticipate producing tremendous quantities of laundry. It is also a product that is appreciated by those who value European quality and have space limitations. Features we especially like are the maximum spin speed of 1600 rpm, the 35-minute quick cycle and the option of up to seven rinses.
Unlike American washers, the Asko W6461 plugs into the back of an Asko dryer, then into a 22-volt dryer outlet. This allows communication between the machines and helps match washing and drying times.
A choice outside the norm, this machine is a quality built washer with a long anticipated life span. Asko's W6461 is considered best for small families, unique installations, specialty designs and space-restricted laundry areas.
Pros: Outstanding quality and durability this model is excellent for small loads and small, unique spaces
Cons: Small capacity, limited service and distribution in some regions of US
