Amana NED7200TW / NGD7200TW dryer
Date Published: 3/24/08
The Amana NED7200TW (electric) and the NGD7200TW (gas) dryer proves you don't have to spend a small fortune to get one of those fancy new front-loading dryers. You can purchase this great dryer and be the talk of the neighborhood, not just because you bought it, but because you were smart enough to save a bundle.
The features of this dryer are as impressive as those on dryers that cost much more. For comparison purposes, we considered this model's capacity, dryness control and design sensibility. All of these criteria easily met the standards of our experts. Amana's 7.1-cubic-foot NED7200TW/NGD7200TW dryer is right up there among the largest of all dryers. With a dryer that offers this much interior space, you can certainly care for the clothing needs of a large family. You can also rest assured that this model will thoroughly dry your clothing, without shrinkage and heat damage. The onboard sensor protects your laundry from these potential disasters and even offers an adjustment feature that lets you choose the degree of dryness you desire, which is great for natural fibers, delicates, lingerie and other fabrics that benefit from some retained moisture.
When it comes to a user-friendly design, this model once again gave us plenty to like. The controls are simple, but include six cycles and informative indicator lights. A cool down cycle is provided, although its extended tumbling period is not as long -- nor with as many options -- as on more expensive models. Familiar settings from your old traditional dryer, such as fluff and a 99-minute timed dry, can still be found on this model. Wrinkle control is also offered as is an end-of-cycle indicator that lets you know when your load is complete.
Long a respected brand, Amana has been re-positioned as the value oriented arm of the Whirlpool family of appliances. For this reason, you will find similarities between the NED7200TW/NGD7200TW and Whirlpool and Maytag dryers. What you won't find on those brands, though, is the low price. If you're committed to purchasing one of the newer style, front-loading washer/dryer pairs and want to keep costs down, it makes a lot of sense to consider the NED7200TW/NGD7200TW from Amana.
Pros: A low-price alternative, front-load style dryer with a large capacity and a sensor
Cons: No designer colors here -- just basic white
