Amana NAV8805EW top-loading washer

Date Published: 10/16/08

Amana's top-loading NAV8805EW may not be an exciting model loaded with novel technology, but it's an exceptionally good value. With this top-loader you'll find lots of the quality features you should be looking for: a stainless-steel tub, variable water levels, a heavy-duty 1/2 horsepower motor and the coveted Energy Star rating for efficient operation.

In addition to these desirable features, you'll enjoy the little conveniences that make doing the laundry less of a hassle. We particularly liked the quick faucet feature that allows you to wet a stain right in the tub. This handy water supply allows you to add some detergent and water directly to a spot, giving you a jumpstart on a potentially difficult set-in stain. Families looking for a machine with more than just the basics will appreciate the extra rinse setting that helps remove soap residues that can irritate sensitive skin.

More commonly available, but equally beneficial is the extended selection of cycles. These cycles include a hand wash for delicates and a quick wash that's great for those in a hurry to finish up a small load. Four water temperature combinations also provide more than the usual options for customizing your load's wash and rinse temperatures. With a 620 RPM spin speed, this model doesn't compare to a front loader, but it does remove more water than many other models, serving to speed typical drying times. Like most good washers, the NAV8805EW offers both a bleach and fabric softener dispenser.

If you're not interested in spending money on the advanced engineering of high-tech models, then consider Amana's top-loading NAV8805EW; it sure beats dropping $1000 or more on technology you may not utilize.

Pros: Exceptionally good value for more than just the basics, stainless tub, Energy Star compatible, quick faucet feature
Cons: Lacks the advanced engineering of the high tech models
