Amana AGS5730BD slide-in gas range
Date Published: 12/4/07
With the AGS5730BD, Amana manages to offer one of the lowest priced slide-in gas ranges without losing track of quality. It certainly doesn't have all the latest and greatest in gas range technology, but it does have all the features that you will need to cook successfully for your family for years to come.
You won't find a warming drawer or convection on this model, but you'll find an easy-to-use self-cleaning oven topped with four reliable burners. Not only does the oven self-clean, but it also gives you a choice of cycles based on the amount of soil in the oven. Use a full cycle for cleaning the oven after a messy roast or a pie boil-over or opt for a short cycle to tidy up after just a few uses.
Following industry trends, the Amana AGS5730BD is billing two of its burners as a high-output burner and a simmer burner. While the 16,000-Btu high-output burner puts out more heat than the standard large burner, the simmer burner doesn't differ one bit from a standard small gas burner. Few small burners do, and when they do, it's the minimum output that matters, not the maximum, which in this case is 5,000 Btu. In reality, haggling over the simmer burner is a moot point. No gas range in this price range offers a true simmer burner and the standard low burner on this model works just fine.
Although this model doesn't offer all the latest, it does have some features we find particularly convenient. Our favorite is the grate design. Large, flat grates make it as easy to move pots about as it is on a commercial model. We also like the keep warm setting and delay bake on the oven.
This unit comes in all the current colors: black, white, stainless steel and bisque. If we wanted to spend as little as possible and purchase a reliable slide-in gas range, Amana's AGS5730BD would most likely be the model we'd buy.
