We are always impressed by quality-built refrigerators that have surprising, welcome convenience and performance features at prices that are hundreds of dollars less than comparably-equipped models. Amana's side-by-side ACD2234HRW model is just such a refrigerator.

The cabinet-depth, ACD2234HRW includes features such as two enclosed on-door beverage chiller compartments, one of which is capable of holding two-liter bottles and the other of holding smaller containers. Both compartments have adjustable temperature control and can be kept at up to 4 degrees colder than the rest of the fresh foods compartment.

The Amana ACD2234HRW has ample space for a medium-sized family or a couple that likes to cook and entertain. It would not, however, have sufficient capacity for a large family. It features 13.5 cubic feet of storage space in the fresh foods area and 8.1 cubic feet in the freezer.

On the door of the ACD2234HRW are two clear-front adjustable gallon-size bins and a covered dairy compartment, in addition to large and small beverage chiller compartments. Inside the main fresh foods area are four full-width adjustable tempered glass shelves with a spill-saver feature, including a glass shelf above the two humidity-controlled clear front-framed vegetable and fruit crisper drawers. It also has a temperature-controlled snack/deli drawer as well as an egg caddy.

The ACD2234HRW's freezer has one adjustable door bucket and three tilt-out door shelves/buckets. The design of the door buckets is wonderful -- instead of the white wire gates that come on some models, the ACD2234HRW has solid gates. This means that very small items cannot fall out from the bin and create a mess. Within the freezer compartment are two white wire shelves and two extra-large pullout baskets. Both the freezer and refrigerator compartments have three lights, so the interior of both compartments is pleasantly bright. The water and ice delivery system takes up quite a bit of room within the freezer.

We like the water and ice delivery dispenser; it is long and deep, which make it easy to fill large containers like tall glasses and pitchers with ice and water. The dispenser makes ice and delivers water through a PuR water filter. It has a child lock, water or ice selection buttons, filter-change indicator and a nightlight. The dial-type temperature controls are located on the inside top left of the fresh foods compartment and are easy to use.

Color choices for the Amana ACD2234HRW include white, bisque, black and stainless steel.

Amana's ACD2234HRW is a good value, has some extras and conveys a quality feel.
