Altec Lansing iM7 iPod boom box system
Date Published: 6/12/06
Altec Lansing's inMotion iM7 boom box is for iPods, and iPods only, and it is a great way to share your digital audio collection with everyone. The iM7 is a powered speaker and docking system for all iPods, including the nano and mini. In addition to providing a high-quality speaker array, when connected to AC power, the iM7 charges your iPod. When AC isn't available, the iM7 runs on eight D batteries but doesn't charge your digital audio player.
Beside the obvious iPod capabilities, the iM7 sets itself apart from most other boom boxes in other ways. It employs three-way speakers with a substantial (for a boom box) 25-watt amplifier, so this system sounds great. There are two 3-inch midrange woofers with neodymium magnets, as well as a pair of 1-inch silk-dome tweeters for an accurate high-end response. The iM7 also puts the "boom" in boom box with a 4-inch subwoofer powered by an additional 25-watt amplifier. The overall frequency response is 60Hz to 20,000Hz.
The iM7 has composite and S-video outputs for viewing iPod videos on a TV screen. An auxiliary input lets you listen to another source, such as a TV or another portable audio device. The Altec Lansing inMotion iM7 is a great way to listen to your iPod, with a sound that shows off the real detail and power in your music collection.
