Alpine MRA-D550 amplifier and signal processor

Date Published: 1/11/08

The Alpine MRA-D550 combines a signal processor with a five-channel amplifier, creating an amazingly easy-to-install hub for a car audio/video system. The MRA-D550 has adjustable high-pass and low-pass crossovers, with separate controls for the front, center, and rear channels, as well as the subwoofer. It offers complete bass management to protect your speakers, and there is even a subsonic filter to safeguard your subwoofer.

The MRA-D550's CEA2006-compliant power rating is 60 watts (average) into all five channels, and it includes a parametric equalizer, phase selects and time correction. This signal processor has two optical digital audio inputs, as well as integrated processing for Dolby Digital and DTS 5.1 surround signals. There are also RCA inputs and Ai-NET connections for linking other Alpine components.

The chassis features a cross-venting pattern to keep it running coolly and efficiently. The power, RCA, and speaker terminals are all gold-plated for excellent conductivity. The price of the MRA-D550 may appear high for a car signal processor, but with the inclusion of a competent multichannel amplifier, this unit kills two birds with one stone.
