AG Neovo P-17 17-Inch LCD Monitor
Date Published: 2/26/08
The AG Neovo P-17 17-inch LCD display is designed for multimedia. You can use it for almost any multimedia purpose you can think of, including gaming, movies, home theater and catching up with your favorite television shows while you work.
One of the first things you'll notice about the P-17 is its unusual base. Spanning the width of the monitor, the base curves back on itself, so the display almost appears to be sitting on its haunches. The base houses the built-in 3-D stereo speakers and subwoofer, which sound great. The design is clever, but if you tend to accumulate clutter around your display, you may find that the base gets in the way and the audio becomes muffled. On the plus side, the design works well if your desktop space is limited, as you won't need to find space for standalone speakers. It will probably also force you to clean up your desk, which is generally a good thing.
Adjustment options are limited to tilting the display up to 5 degrees forward and up to 20 degrees back. The display doesn't pivot or swivel, and there are no height adjustment options. The P-17 is VESA-compatible, so you can add a wall or arm mount to gain flexibility as well as desktop space.
The P-17 has a native resolution of 1,280X1,024. Image quality is very good but not outstanding, and it is certainly not as impressive as you would expect from the P-17's suggested price tag. Colors are vivid with good detail in highlights and shadows, and contrast is decent as well. The 4-millisecond pixel response time virtually eliminates ghosting and blurring in video and other fast-moving images.
The P-17 supports sGRB (standardized Red Green Blue), a color space defined by Microsoft and Hewlett-Packard. The sRGB setting helps provide consistent color across software applications and hardware peripherals, including printers, scanners and digital cameras.
Other features include four USB ports (two on each side), so you can use the display as a USB hub for connecting scanners, digital cameras and other peripherals. There is also a headphone jack, a microphone jack and support for optional S-video and CVBS video inputs.
The AG Neovo P-17has a lot to offer for a 17-inch LCD display, but its price tag is painfully steep for the performance delivered.
Pros: Multiple input options, innovative design, audio quality of the built-in speakers is surprisingly good
Cons: Expensive, no pivot, swivel or height adjustment options
